“The government is making big efforts and by the end of the month, I estimate that five hot spots will be working in the Aegean islands and in Schisto, Athens and in Sindos, Thessaloniki,” assured the Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, Thodoris Dritsas, with statement at ANA-MPA.
The minister pleaded with the local communities to imitate the islanders, who, on several occasions, handled the refugee crisis exceptionally. However, the minister did not exclude the danger of migrants being trapped in the country, if several neighboring countries choose the shutting down of the borders.
“The government is taking all necessary actions and moves, which must be made very carefully, so that we avoid this situation,” Dritsas said and described the creation and operation of the hot spots as a “national matter.”
