'Refugee' Cat Reunites With Family After Fleeing Iraq (video)

Refugee cat
A family of refugees have been reunited with their beloved cat, after splitting up from the pet while fleeing from Iraq. The epic journey of Kunkush the “refugee cat” lasted over four months when he was welcomed in Norway by his family.
A mother — five children and their cat — were forced flee Iraq. Not being able to leave their furry family member behind, the family took Kunkush with them and fled their home beginning their long journey. In November 2015, the family reached the island of Lesbos.
As the family reached the shores of Lesbos on a rubber boat, the cat became scared amid the chaos and ran away, separating from his owners. Days later, the pure white, yet weathered, Kunkush, was spotted by several volunteers and local residents in a village close-by; however, the family had already been relocated. With the help of a veterinarian, the cat was nursed back to heath and was taken good care of. In addition, three women decided to take things a step further, and launched a campaign to locate the cat’s human family.

After two months, Kunkush was relocated to a foster home in Berlin while the search continued. Last week, the efforts to reunite Kunkush with his owners paid off, when Kunkush’s family, now resettled in Norway, spotted a story about their cat in The Daily Mail.
The cat was welcomed with tears of joy, and the family is now ready to start their new lives in Norway.
