The President of the Hellenic Republic received today the president of PASOK and head of the Democratic Alignment Fofi Gennimata.
The aim of the meeting, made upon the request of Fofi Gennimata, was to discuss the migration crisis and its effects on Greece. During the meeting, the PASOK leader asked the President to call a meeting of political leaders.
The President of the Hellenic Republic said he will support a meeting of political leaders and underlined the need for a consensus, but pointed out that there are procedures in place regarding such a meeting that need to be observed.
Be that as it may, it seems that the two major mainstream parties in Greece — New Democracy and Pasok — are in support of the Syriza-led government’s position on the migration crisis, a rare but welcome occurrence on the Greek political scene.
