Obama, Cameron, Merkel, Hollande Discuss Greece-Turkey Cooperation on Refugee Issue

720_400_487917The importance of the NATO mission and the cooperation of Greece and Turkey in an attempt to control the flow of refugees to Europe were discussed by U.S. President Barack Obama, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Francois Hollande and British Prime Minister David Cameron.
The four state leaders spoke in a teleconference on the situation in Syria and the refugee-migrant crisis Europe is facing. They welcomed the prospect of cessation of hostilities in Syria, on the basis of the Munich Agreement on February 11 and called on all parties to implement it faithfully.
The state leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to political transition in the country, which will bring lasting peace and legitimate governance for the Syrian people.
According to the statement, the leaders stressed the importance of immediate cessation of bombing against civilian populations, and discussed steps to improve the humanitarian crisis.

President Obama spoke today by video conference with Prime Minister David Cameron of the United Kingdom, President Francois Hollande of France, and Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany to discuss the current situation in Syria and the ongoing refugee and migration crisis facing Europe. The leaders welcomed the prospect of a cessation of hostilities in Syria as outlined by the understanding reached in Munich on February 11, called on all parties to implement it faithfully, and reaffirmed their commitment to a political transition in Syria that will bring lasting peace and legitimate governance to the Syrian people. The leaders underscored the importance of an immediate halt to the indiscriminate bombing of civilian populations. The President also discussed with his counterparts steps to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Syria and the importance of the NATO mission and coordination between Greece and Turkey to manage the flow of migrants into Europe.
