The Majority of Greeks Declared Incomes Less Than 10,000 Euros for 2015

tax checksAccording to a report by the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises seeking to analyze the distribution of tax burdens, 1.2 million taxpayers filed zero income for 2015, while 4.6 million taxpayers (the equivalent of 53.6% of the nation’s taxpayers) declared income of no more than 10,000 euros and contributed 7.5% of government revenues from individual income taxes.
Another 2.5 million taxpayers declared income between 10,000 to 30,000 euros and contributed 50% of government revenues from individual income taxes.
Those with incomes between 30,000-100,000 euros amounted to less than 3% of the nation’s taxpayers and contributed to 29.9% of government revenues from individual income taxes.
18,000 people declared incomes above 100,000 euros and contributed 12.6% of the governments revenues from individual income taxes.
The report also notes that 267,000 taxpayers with an income above 30,000 euros paid, on the average, 13,790 euros in taxes, contributing to 42% of the total government revenues from individual income taxes and the solidarity tax.
The recommendation made by the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises is that high incomes should not be taxed at such high rates and that the government possibly eliminate non-taxable income.
