Farmers from over 22 blockades from Central Macedonia entered Thessaloniki with tractors and agricultural vehicles, and camped outside the Macedonia-Thrace Ministry. In the rally, there was participation from people of the primary sector from the districts of Thessaloniki, Chalkidiki, Kilkis, Pella, Pieria and Imathia.
On Thursday morning, protesting farmers entered the city of Thessaloniki with tractors and made a demonstration towards the Macedonia-Thrace Ministry, where they gathered to express their opposition against the pension reform plan and the security fund. Some farmers tied heavy chains around the barred gate of the Ministry and tried to take it down with their tractors, causing serious tension.
The Greek farmers are insisting on their struggle stating that they are in readiness, depending on what the government’s bills entail. In an announcement by the Panhellenic Blockade Committee, farmers stated that they will continue their struggle and remain in the roadblocks, estimating that “the organized struggle will leave a stock for our demands but as well as for the movement itself, as the struggle is not a one-way-street. It is a struggle that will be continued along with workers, self-employed and the rest of the popular classes.”
