Greek Deputy Minister of Citizen Protection Admits Presence of Turkish Personnel on Greek Islands

toskasAnyone who thought that NATO’ patrols in the Aegean sea would solve the problem of smugglers taking migrants from Turkey to Greece needs a reality check.
“630 refugees and migrants landed on Greek shores during the last 24 hours,” said Greek Deputy Minister of Citizen Protection Nikos Toskas speaking on SKAI.
Toskas also admitted that he signed an agreement with his Turkish counterpart to allow Turkish personnel to be present on Greek islands so the deportation process of illegal immigrants can be done as quickly as possible.
Addressing media reports that on five Greek islands there is already an evacuation process of refugees and migrants underway, Toskas said that “it goes without saying that refugees will be moved from the islands to the mainland.”
The Greek Deputy Minister of Citizen Protection underlined that the upcoming Summit on migrants, scheduled to take place March 17-18, is crucial for a solution to the migrant crisis as it concerns the relocation of migrants from Greece to other European countries and the return of illegal migrants to Turkey.
Toskas also expressed his personal belief that the flow of migrants to Greece will be reduced in the weeks and months ahead and there won’t be refugee accommodation centers in so-called vulnerable areas of the country.
