The Euboean Gulf was filled with pirates, boats and floats who “fought” to conquer the Castle and Fortress of Kanithos. Pirate ships and corsairs arrived from both the North and the South and lit the night sky with cannons, torches, fires and fireworks.
Chaklida4Before the “great” sea battle, carnavalists paraded through the city with floats that described current issues with humor, while the young and old danced and sang in the streets.
Chaklida1After the float parade, the crowd gathered on the beach where they awaited for the most spectacular event of the whole carnival season.
The sea battle ended with the pirates setting the main float of the parade on fire, while the Castle of Chalikida was lit with fireworks, marking the end of this year’s carnival season.
