EU Leaders Jean-Claude Juncker and Martin Schulz Express Optimism About Outcome of EU-Turkey Summit

European Parliament - Martin SchulzSchulz expressed optimism about the outcome of the two-day EU summit under way in Brussels.
Speaking to the press prior to the start of the summit, Mr. Juncker said the EU-Turkey tentative agreement is in conformity with European and international law, thereby replying to those who have expressed concerns about the legality of such a deal, which includes the United Nations and international human rights organizations.
In addition, the President of the European Commission said that no country should be left on its own to tackle the refugee crisis, and it is most likely that he had Greece in mind while making this statement.
In turn, the President of the European Parliament also said that the proposed deal with Turkey conforms to international law and underlined the need to break up the human smuggling networks.
Mr. Schulz also pointed out that all EU member states should take part in the refugee relocation efforts and criticized those countries that refuse to accept refugees.
Mr. Schultz also expressed hope that there will be a solution to the objections on the part of Cypriot president Anastasiades to the proposed EU-deal if Turkey does not make necessary concessions.
