Tourist Arrivals Increase Significantly in First Two Months of 2016

Tourist arrivals in Cyprus increased significantly in the first two months of the year, the Statistical Service announced on Thursday, with new figures also showing that arrivals from Russia soared in February.
“For the period January – February 2016 arrivals of tourists totalled 114,596 compared to 92,508 in the corresponding period of 2015, recording an increase of 23.9%” the Statistical Service said.
On the basis of the results of the Passengers Survey, arrivals of tourists reached 65.988 in February 2016 compared to 50.709 in February 2015, recording an increase of 30.1%.
An increase of 28.0% was recorded in tourist arrivals from the United Kingdom (from 17,329 in February 2015 to 22,175 in February 2016), 16.6% increase from Greece (from 7,510 to 8,755) and 101.1% increase from Russia (from 3,659 to 7,358 this year).
On the other hand tourist arrivals from France saw a decrease of 29.9% (1,317 in February 2016 compared to 1,880 in February 2015).
The Passengers Survey also showed that 77,650 residents of Cyprus returned from a trip abroad in February 2016 compared to 73,319 in the corresponding month last year, recording an increase of 5.9%.
In February there was an increase of 7.4% on the trips of residents to Greece.
