New Democracy Sees EU-Turkey Deal As a Positive Step, However With Reservations

New Democracy
Main opposition party to the SYRIZA-ANEL led government, New Democracy (ND) said on Friday the agreement achieved between the European Union and Turkey at Friday’s summit in Brussels is a “positive step”, adding that if they had failed, that would perpetuate the tragic situation faced by Greece “as a result of the government’s incompetence.”
The party noted, however, that the deal alone doesn’t solve the problem and that it must be implemented effectively.
ND also said the text seems, at first, complicated and unclear, as it raises some serious questions: Can it be implemented in practice? And if it can, will it have the results the country urgently needs?
“Until these questions are answered in practice, Greece will remain with closed borders at the north and dozens of thousands of stranded refugees and migrants,” the party added in its press release.
