18th Thessaloniki Documentary Festival
Another successful Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival (TDF) has come to an end, with the 18th event wrapping up on Sunday March 20. The two documentaries that stood out and were voted by the public for prestigious awards for films longer than 45 minutes were “Landfill Harmonic – Symphony of the Human Spirit” and “Argo Navis”.
“Landfill Harmonic – Symphony of the Human Spirit,” by Bradi Allgood and Graham Townsley, scooped the Peter Wintonick Audience Award in the international section. The film talks about The Recycled Orchestra of Cateura, a Paraguayan musical youth group of kids living next to one of South America’s largest landfills.
“Argo Navis,” a film directed by Susanne Bausinger and Stelios Efstathopoulos, won the audience award for a Greek film. “Argo Navis” is about a 2003 project to create a replica of the ancient Greek penteconter warship.
Maro Anastopoulou’s documentary “Whispers of the Sky,” won the prize for a foreign documentary in the Greek selection. Her film illustrates how people of Amorgos island still rely on natural signs in order to predict the weather changes.
