Occasioned by the completion of 2,400 years since the birth of the great ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle and after a proposal by the Greek national committee, the year 2016 was declared as the year of “Aristotle” by UNESCO.
The proposal was accepted by the 38th General Assembly of the organization last November in Paris. A series of events will occur with the help of the Ministry of Education.
Assistant Minister of Education Kostas Pelegrinis said that “We (the Greeks) always talk about the need to expand our education and culture. The decision of UNESCO is an opportunity for us. The events will aim in the same direction both here, as well as in Heidelberg and Paris. The main event will take place in the French capital in November 2016, when it is also International Philosophy Day.” He also added that “it is a series that brings Greece in the center of focus.”
