Greek Bank Deposits Drop Second Month in a Row

bank-of-GreeceGreek bank deposits dropped in February for the second month in a row after a 2.05 percent increase in December, according to a Bank of Greece report released on Tuesday.
Greece’s central bank data shows that business and household deposits decreased by 550 million euros, or 0.45 percent month-on-month to 121.68 billion euros, their lowest level since July 2003. They had declined to 122.23 billion euros in January.
Greek banks have been recapitalized in November, after deposits slowed significantly since July, when Athens signed a third bailout agreement. Capital controls are also in effect since end-June, thereby stemming the outflow.
Depositors withdrew a total of 42 billion euros from December to July 2015 amid elections and political uncertainty.
