Two Greek Islands Among the Most Romantic in the World

Travel & Leisure Magazine presented a list of the most romantic islands in the world for 2016. As part of the magazine’s annual questionnaire World’s Best Awards survey, readers ranked various merits, including natural beauty, dining, activities, as well as a unique potential to make hearts flutter.
Among the top winners, there were islands around the globe, with white sandy beaches, palm trees, natural soundtracks of lapping waves, even an island that’s shaped like a heart. Two Greek islands, Mykonos (pictured above) and Santorini won a spot in the heart of Travel & Leisure Magazine.
Mykonos is a beautiful island in the Cyclades, lying between Tinos, Syros, Paros and Naxos. It is characterized by white little houses with flowers and blue windows and doors, hand painted streets, windmills and lots of little churches. Its nickname is “The island of the winds.
Santorini, also called Thira, is the only inhabited Caldera (volcano cauldron) in the world. The colors of the volcanic rock are spectacular. Santorini offers stunning sunsets, impressive beaches and a view to the volcano. The myth according to which Santorini is Lost Atlantis provides the island with an additional fairy-tale element.
Other destinations also listed as the most romantic in the world are Maldives, Bora Bora, Moorea in French Polynesia, Capri in Italy, Maui, Kauai, Lanai and Big Island in Hawaii, Bali in Indonesia, Harbor Island and Exumas in Bahamas, Anguila, St. Bart’s, Fiji Islands, Kiawah Island SC, Saint John in U.S. Virgin Islands, Nantucket in Massachusetts and Virgin Gorda.
