Muslim Studies to be Founded in Aristotle University of Thessaloniki

The Council of State has approved the establishment of Muslim studies in the Faculty of Theology in Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, after finding legal the appropriate presidential decree by the Ministry of Education.
The direction of Muslim studies will begin in the academic year of 2016-2017. Members of the Council of State said that the establishment of the Muslim studies direction “functions with the facilitation of the alumni of the Madrasa in Thrace, to complete their studies in Theology in the tertiary education and with the need of a inter-religious dialogue.”
However, the court decided that the renaming of the Faculty of Slavic Studies of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens is not legal. The presidential decree of the Ministry of Education wanted to rename the Faculty of Slavic Studies into “Faculty of Russian Language and Philology and Slavic Studies.” The councilors of the Council of State found that the aforementioned presidential decree is in deviation from the opinion of the “Principle of Assurance of the Quality in the Highest Education.”
