President Pavlopoulos Notes 'Tragic Experience' of the April 21, 1967 Coup

pavlopoulos-putinThe April 21, 1967 coup that abolished democracy in Greece is a tragic experience that teaches all people to rigorously defend human rights, Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos said on Wednesday in a message to mark 49 years since the Greek colonels’ coup.
“The abolition of democracy that took place with the criminal coup of April 21, 1967 constitutes, as always, a tragic experience which teaches us in perpetuity … that the defense of all human rights, especially social rights in this conjuncture, is everyone’s duty, but above all the State’s. Any negligence in this direction is a direct attack on democracy and the welfare state,” the President said.
