Another Round of Media Strikes in Protest Over Pension Reforms

mediastrikeJournalists across Greece have called a further strike today over pension reforms. This latest strike follows the recent 48 hour print and media strike by the Panhellenic Federation of Journalists’ Union earlier this week. The federation’s main protests are aimed at cuts towards social welfare, pension rights and the defense of insurance funds.
The Greek government has had to push forward pension reform legislation as part of the 86 billion Euro deal it signed with its international lenders last year. The demands have continued to cause anger within the public sector.
Although, the strike is due to last until 6 a.m. this Wednesday, the federation emphasized that news could continue to be broadcast on the radio between 1:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. along with TV bulletins from 8:00 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.
In addition to that, news websites will also be updated during the strike intervals.
On Friday, the federation had met to decide whether or not to take further action against the changes to the pension system, which had been detailed in a bill put to public consultation earlier this week.
