Sirmacis is Youngest Winner in Acropolis Rally History, Athanassoulas Wins 2nd Place

Acropolis Rally21-year-old Latvian driver Ralfs Sirmacis, secured a sensational win at the SEAJETS Acropolis Rally of Greece held at the dirt tracks of Lamia for the first time since 2005. The victory marks the young driver’s debut at the top level of the FIA European Rally Championships (ERC).
Sirmacis had led the rally after winning the first stage on Saturday and drove his Skoda Fabia R5 to victory. “I felt like the last special stage would never end. We are very happy. I have no words; to win a rally at your debut in an R5 car is just an amazing feeling,” said Sirmacis regarding his win as the youngest driver in the history of the Acropolis Rally.
There was confusion regarding the other drivers with Greek driver Lambros Athanassoulas winning second place on home turf just one tenth of a second ahead of Peter Ranga. Driving A SKODA Fabia R5, Athanassoulas drove in second place with tears, unsure of his victory. “We wanted this result very much and we proved throughout the rally that we are fast enough to accomplish that,” he said. “In the last stage we were very upset, but we remained calm, pushed as much as we could and managed to achieve our goal.”
