Two transport aircrafts of the Greek Airforce have been found near the old Nicosia airport, after a Cypriot man gave testimony to authorities, according to Cyprus’ Presidential Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Fotis Photiou.
Photiou said that the man was working as an electrician at the airport in 1974 and that he was present when the two aircraft were buried.
As such, Photiou added that there is no information that any bodies were buried in the area.
The two aircrafts, type “NORATLAS,” had taken part in the NIKI operation on the morning of July 21, 1974, but had not been able to take off due to the damage that had been caused by friendly fire.
Photiou added that, according to testimonies, the aircraft were buried by the British in a 10 to 15 meter deep entrenchment.
