A free one-day scientific seminar with the theme “Maternal Mental Health: Latest Insights and Best Practices” was offered to health professionals by the NY-based Seleni Institute, at the Hellenic American College in Athens, May 13.
Introduced by psychotherapist and psychoanalyst Haroula Ntalla, the intensive training course offered a deep and analytic informative session on effective treatments for maternal mental health issues. Utilizing the most current theoretical and research findings, Ntalla covered the three critical steps to treating perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) and grief from miscarriage, stillbirth, and child loss. The training’s aim was to educate any mental and medical healthcare providers — such as psychologists, obstetricians and gynecologists, midwives, and pediatricians — who encounter women in the first year after giving birth.

Prior to the training, an event took place on May 12th at the Grande Bretagne Hotel, during which Nitzia Logothetis introduced herself and Seleni’s program to the attendees and highlighted the importance of maternal health.

About the Seleni Institute
The Seleni Institute is a nonprofit organization that was founded by Nitzia and George Logothetis in 2011 to transform mental health and wellness for the women of the world by increasing the availability and accessibility of mental health and wellness support for women and their families, providing financial assistance to those who are unable to afford care, including pregnant and parenting teenagers.
In addition, Seleni provides emotional support for women worldwide, through reasoned and practical online information, as well as emotional support for women in the workplace, through corporate workshops and programs.
Furthermore, Seleni aims to increase the availability of professional training opportunities for mental health and health care providers to screen, treat, and/or refer women in distress and to promote knowledge and understanding of reproductive and maternal mental health through research funding.
