On June 6 the 25th Posidonia maritime exhibition will open at Athens Metropolitan Expo. The exhibition has been coordinated in large by Greek organizers who announced Thursday that they expect a huge turnout of over 20,000 visitors. The event will take place through June 10.
The event will host some of the most prestigious executives in the industry along with over 1,800 exhibitors from 89 countries that are planned to participate.
“All should be assured that our hospitable country can successfully meet the highest goals even in difficult times,” the Greek shipping minister, Theodore Dritsas commented.
The maritime industry represents around 90 percent of world trade and in spite of the economic and financial crisis hitting Greece at present time, the Greek-owned fleet comprised of 4,585 ships represents around 19.6 percent of the world’s deadweight tonnage.
According to the Greek maritime community and organizers, it is estimated that the 25th Posidonia maritime exhibition along with the three days of parallel sports events ahead of the opening ceremony will result in the profit of some 60 million euros for Greece’s hospitality sector.
