New Greek IDs Aim to Bypass Bureaucracy

The old “blue” Greek IDs will be replaced by the new advanced ID cards, which will be launched in 2017, and will include several personal data that aim to bypass bureaucracy and also the reduce the possibility of forging.
The new IDs will contain a microchip among other biometric information which cannot be copied or falsified. In addition, information such as the SSRN, the Tax Registration number and other personal data will be included.
The responsible committee by the Ministry of Public Order and Citizen Protection is concluding the law frame regarding the new ID cards, according to Interior Minister Panagiotis Kouroublis.
Speaking to SKAI radio, Kouroublis noted that “11,000,000 documents and certificates of the Public Sector will belong to the past. As of October, there will be a register office for civilians and the country will be relieved by all this confusion. This way, all the data bases of the Public Sector will be connected.”
The cost of the new ID cards will be 10 euro, as production will cost the state about 80 million euros.
