China Airlines Canceling Flights to Greece This Summer

china_airlines_The Taipei-based China Airlines has announced that it is canceling 18 direct flights from Taiwan to Greece that were scheduled from June 3 to October 7.
The airline has not been able to obtain the required license from the Greek Civil Aviation Authority, even though it had previously received verbal assurance from Greece that a temporary license would be issued, according to its chief, Chang Yu-Hern.
According to international news reports, the Greek Civil Aviation Authority has not granted the temporary license. Sources have reported that the hang up in obtaining the necessary documents occurred in light of the political relationship between Beijing and Taipei, and because of this, the Foreign Ministry in Athens was unable get clearance to go ahead with the temporary license.
China Airlines has been busy booking flights to Greece and working with six different travel agencies to help promote its 18 charter flights to Athens. The airline will still operate its flights to other European countries including the UK, Germany, France and the Netherlands.
The airline has announced that it will reallocate its passengers who had booked flights to Athens on other carriers.
