Hellenic Navy Is the 3rd Best of NATO

NAVY
Alternate Minister of National Defense, Dimitris Vitsas, on board the Frigate ADRIAS of the Hellenic Navy, attended activities of operational training, which were part of the final stage of the exercise “KATAIGIS 2016,” on Wednesday, June 8, and early on Thursday, June 9, 2016. During his stay on board, the Alternate Minister was briefed by the Commander on the execution of the exercise and held discussions with the crew. The event was rendered a success, which comes as little surprise bearing in mind that the Hellenic Navy is the 3rd best according to NATO’s evaluation of 28 member states.
Greece’s formidable navy is one reason why NATO places trust in Greece and its upgraded role in the central Mediterranean ahead of an increase in operations at the north of the Gulf of Syrtis, Libya. Greece’s navy is of service to NATO and there is discussion as to whether Greece should continue to be limited as the country where the Best in Med Base of Souda, Crete, is located or whether its presence in exercises should be increased.
