A preliminary investigation into comments made by Deputy Health Minister Pavlos Polakis has been ordered by Supreme Court Prosecutor Efterpi Koutzamani on Friday. She called for the claims made by the minister to be investigated so that prosecutorial action can be taken.
Polakis comments, suggesting that judicial officials were involved in illegal rackets, caused a furor with the Union of Greek Judges and Prosecutors who called on Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos to intervene.
On Friday, Greek Justice Minister Nikos Paraskevopoulos was asked a question pertaining to the matter on Friday. He said that he and the Ministry of Justice had complete faith in the Greek justice system. Nonetheless, he added that politicians have the right to defend their opinions though the comments were not directed at any one person in particular.
