Greece Condemns Istanbul Terrorist Attack

ataturk_web-thumb-largeThe Greek Foreign Ministry has condemned Tuesday’s terrorist attack on Istanbul‘s Ataturk international airport that left at least 41 people dead and 147 injured.
“Disgusted and appalled by the new terrorist attack in Istanbul. We stand by our neighbors, our friends, against terror,” reads the message on the ministry’s Twitter account.
According to Turkish authorities, three perpetrators dressed in black started shooting with Kalashnikov assault rifles outside and inside the terminal late on Tuesday and blew themselves up after police fired at them. Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said early signs suggested the Islamic State was behind the attack.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the fatal attacks showed that the whole world is at threat from radical Islamism. “The attack, which took place during the holy month of Ramadan, shows that terrorism strikes with no regard for faith and values,” he said in a statement.
Most of the victims of the mayhem are Turkish citizens, Turkish police said.
In addition, President of the Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos unequivocally condemned the terrorist attack at Ataturk Airport of Istanbul.
Following Pavlopoulos’ order, the general secretary of the Greek Republic Presidency Giorgos Gennimatas made phone contact late Tuesday with Turkey’s ambassador to Greece Kerim Uras and asked him to convey to the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan and to the Turkish people Pavlopoulos’ firm condemnation as well as his and the Greek people’s condolences to the families of the victims and to the Turkish people.
