On Thursday Surpeme Court prosecutor, Efterpi Koutzamani underscored that there are opposing factors to the best interest of the country’s justice system.
According to ekathimerini.com, the outspoken prosecutor relayed her concerns last Thursday in a written statement on her last day of the job saying: “There have been attempts recently to undermine the independence and prestige of the justice system.”
Much controversy in the objectivity of judges in Greece has been highlighted in recent months. In March, Defense Minister Panos Kammenos accused Koutzamani of cover-ups and taking kickbacks in some high profile and larger investigations such as the investigation of Andreas Vgenopoulos for his part in the collapse of Cypriot lender Laiki Bank in 2013.
Koutzamani denies all accusations against her and said that there is no evidence to back such claims.
