Melitzazz Festival in Honor of the Greek Eggplant and Local Lore

MELITZAZZ
The Melitzazz festival of Tsakonia, the capital of Leonidio, in Arcadia at the Peloponnese, is a colorful, multicultural gathering of cultures in honor of jazz. Musicians and chefs join forces in a celebration of music, dance, culture and tastes with a number of festivities in the streets, squares and open stages of the picturesque village. The streets of the village are turned into one big open-air festival where the concept of street food is taken to another dimension from July 6-10.
The festival is dedicated to the Tsakonian eggplant, a PDO-designated local product of the region. The festivities highlight the rare qualities of the eggplant, however the local culture is also brought to the fore with presentations that are dedicated to the rare Doric dialect of the people in the region, Tsakonian dance with roots in ancient myths dedicated to the god Apollo.
For more info, head to the festival’s site.
