New Democracy Calls for 'truth and transparency' of Tsipras' Role in Plan X

james galbraithNew Democracy, Greece’s conservative opposition party, has once again called for a parliamentary inquiry into the specific events that lead up to the country’s third bailout agreement.
In particular they are questioning the contingency plan for a scenario in which Greece exited the EU which was created by Greece’s former finance minister Yanis Varoufakis and known as Plan X.
The request came from New Democracy after Saturday’s edition of the Greek newspaper Efimerida ton Syntakton published an opinion editorial in which Varoufakis and his former adviser US economist James Galbraith defended the creation for Plan X and Greece’s need for a contingency plan, further stating that it was drawn up by the request of Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.
“We understood that the finance minister was carrying out instructions on behalf of the PM,” Galbraith told the Greek newspaper Kathimerini.
Plan X is said to have stated in its plan provisions for the Hellenic Army to maintain order during unstable times in case of a Grexit, especially during a financial transition.
“Of course; we were deeply troubled by the many possible social, economic and political disruptions,” Galbraith said.
New Democracy is calling for “truth and transparency” in what role Prime Minister Tsipras partook in Plan X.
