Greek PM Inaugurates New Paros Airport

Tsipras_ParosGreek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras inaugurated the new Paros airport at noon on Friday, with Paronaxia Metropolitan Kallinikos sanctifying the project with holy water.
“This project has only one owner, the people of Paros. It does not belong to any government or any authority other than the people of Paros,” the prime minister said during the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Tsipras said that infrastructure projects such as this will continue in order to create the environment for economic recovery and argued that the Paros airport is an important step in this direction.
The prime minister noted that the project will inject new life to the island and will boost tourism in Greece.
“Paros is a charming destination in the center of the Cyclades (islands) and the tourism industry acquires an airport that is changing the map,” Tsipras said.
“Despite financial difficulties, we managed to overcome major obstacles in the final stage of construction,” he stressed.
The airport can handle 300 arrivals per day and by the end of the year the infrastructure will be double with a view to reach 5,000 square meters, and soon the airport could connect directly with European airports.
Infrastructure, Transport and Networks Minister Christos Spirtzis emphasized that infrastructure projects do not belong to any government, any minister, any prefect, or mayor, but they belong to the citizens. He also pointed out that in the past 100 days the ministry raced with time to complete works.
The prime minister was given a tour of the new airport and visited the control tower. The Commander of the Civil Airforce Constantinos Litzerakos gave him information on the project construction and explained its benefits to the island of Paros.
