Greek Professionals Subject to Declare All Assets to Tax Office

φοροιHundreds of thousands of Greek professionals, doctors, lawmakers, civil servants, journalists, judges and others are subject to declare all their assets as of October 1, according to a new bill.
The people who will be asked to declare all assets above 15,000 euros will have to do so electronically, at www.pothen.gr. The bill applies to cash outside the banking system, whether they are kept in bank deposit boxes or buried in the garden. it also applies for jewelry, precious stones, bonds, shares, or any valuables over 15,000 euros.
A married couple has to declare any cumulative assets above 30,000 euros.
The submission of declarations to tax authorities will begin on October 1st and will continue through the end of December. All assets will be declared during that period and in subsequent years only the changes of those assets will be declared.
In the form to be submitted, all assets must be declared along with the way they were obtained.
This is part of a finance ministry effort to battle tax evasion.
