A new museum in Vergina has received some 4.5 million euro funding approval from the EU and is set to open in 2017 under the proclamation, “Aigai: The first city of the Macedonians, from Hercules to Alexander the Great – In Memory of Aigai.”
The museum will host artifacts from Aigai, which was the first capital of the ancient Greek Kingdom of Macedonia and has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The museum will have more to offer its visitors than just artifacts and history, it will also boast indoor and outdoor multipurpose spaces and patios, an amphitheater, science departments for training as well as public service areas and administration offices.
