Stats Show Greeks Living Longer, but with More Health Problems

elderlyRecent statistics published by the Hellenic Statistical Authority show that although Greeks are living longer, their quality of health is deteriorating.
According to the report which compared figures over several years spanning from 2004 to 2013, the study found that women and men who are 65-years-old on average live an extra 21.6 and 18.7 years, respectively.
However, just because people are living longer does not mean that their quality of life is good, as the study also showed an increase in the amount of health issues that Greeks experience over the same time period.
Women can expect that from the 21.6 years of additional lifespan that 6.8 years will be without any health issues, while 6.7 years will have moderate restrictions due to health and 8 years with serious health problems.
Also, out of the 18.7 years that men have gained from 2004 to 2013, statistics show that they should expect that 8 years of this time period will be without health incidents, while 5.7 years will see some health issues and 5 years with serious health issues.
