Migrants Rescued from Fire at Refugee Camp in Thessaloniki

fire brigade firefightersAuthorities in Thessaloniki are investigating the cause of a fire that broke out Saturday at a migrant reception center near the Thessaloniki Port Authority.
Twelve firefighters along with members of the Greek Coast Guard joined forces to rescue some dozens of migrants from the flames. There were no serious injuries reported and only one migrant was transported to a local hospital with non-threatening injuries.
Authorities reported that the firefighters were able to get the fire under control, however, the fire had already destroyed a great deal of the migrant camp along with beds and living quarters, leaving them in search of alternative accommodations for the migrants.
At this time it is unclear how the fire broke out.
