According to the CNA, the Cyprus police have arrested two Israelis at the Paphos Airport in Cyprus for having in their possession what authorities are calling a fake or “replica” pistol.
The police were aware of the travelers and their illegal possession as their taxi driver, who was taking them from Ayia Napa to the airport, had alerted police after dropping them off for their departure.
So far the cyprus-mail.com has reported that the men were aged 20 and 24-years-old and set to take a return flight to Haifa, however, no additional information is available at this time.
The Israelis never made it on to their flight as police searched them and found what the tourists told them was a souvenir purchased at a shop in Ayia Napa, and that they didn’t realize that the fake pistol would cause such a problem.
The pistol has been sent on to a forensic laboratory to confirm that it is indeed a replica.
At this time there is no further information provided by the CNA as to the two Israelis and any future charges.
