More than 60 firefighters and 17 vehicles are employed to contain a forest blaze that broke out late Sunday in the Taygetus Mountain range in Peloponnese.
On Monday the fire had spread to steep, inaccessible terrain, near the village of Pigadia, according to the Greek Fire Service. They said that seven water-dropping aircraft and one helicopter were dispatched to help firefighters on the ground.
Authorities have not found what caused the fire. However, Kalamata Mayor Panagiotis Nikas told the Athens News Agency that as of Monday noon the fire was under control.
