On Sunday the municipal authority of Trikala issued an official statement thanking dozens of migrants staying at a migrant camp nearby for helping out several villages impacted by the recent severe weather in central Greece.
The migrants, who were Syrian refugees, distributed water alongside local volunteers to dozens of villages that were cut off from the main water supply following floods and heavy rain over the past few days.
The statement from the authorities was moving and heartfelt as it reads: “From the horrors of war, to volunteering their services to the flooded villages of the Municipality of Trikala. From bombs and bloodshed, to devastated livelihoods. Volunteerism, the act of giving and concern for our fellow man triumphed on Saturday.”
