Meet the Most Honest Chestnut Vendor in Greece

Virtue and honesty are not dead. A chestnut vendor on the island of Syros found a bag filled with 3,450 euros and gave it up to its rightful owner despite his own needs. The local website cyclades24.gr, reported that Yiannis Vergos found the money on a bench in the parking lot. He opened the bag and was surprised to find that it was full of money. There was also a cell phone and a wallet full of credit cards inside.
He waited in the hope that the owner of the bag would return before heading to the police station. On the way, a man found him, claiming that the bag was his. Vergos asked for the man to call the cell phone to ensure that he was the rightful owner. Once that was established he handed over the bag, not accepting a reward.
The same chestnut owner had found a wallet with 700 euros a few years earlier and had also returned that money to the university student it belonged to.
