48 Migrants Rescued from Distressed Vessel Near Greek Island Zakynthos

coast_guard_boatjpg-thumb-large-thumb-largeOn Monday, forty-eight migrants including 16 children were located by the Greek coast guard aboard a sailboat in the sea area between Kefalonia and Zakynthos, after transmitting a distress signal though Olympia radio.
Following the distress call and confirmed location, a freight vessel with a Ukranian flag rescued the migrants (22 men, 10 women and 16 children) and transported them to the port of Zakynthos, where they will stay temporarily.
According to initial information, the sailboat was heading to southern Italy.
