United States Secretary of the Treasury Jack Lew responded to a question by Greece’s daily Kathimerini on the sidelines of an event in Washington held for the annual meeting of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
“We have been involved in Greece’s matters and its debts for a long period of time,” he said in response to a question by Greece’s daily Kathimerini. “Thankfully, we are not in a phase of a direct crisis. The issue is what we can do to avoid putting ourselves in a situation of a crisis again.”
He added that “it is important that in the last agreement of Eurozone with Greece, it was decided that the restructuring of the debt should be on the table.” Lew stated the opinion that the only solution to Greece’s debt problems would be to restructure it. He said that delays would only make the situation more difficult for the economy.
