Greece has seen a 0.2 percent rise in employment in September, according to Reuters, which reported that the Hellenic Statistical Authority’s (ELSTAT) latest data shows unemployment numbers easing from 23.4 percent in June to 23.2 percent in July.
On Thursday ELSTAT released data showing that although this is the lowest level of unemployment that Greece has seen since March 2012, the unemployment rate of the country is still more than double the average rate of the eurozone which was holding at 10.1 percent as of July 2016.
With record highs in joblessness hitting the already struggling Greek economy in September, Greeks, particularly those between the ages of 15 to 24-years-old are suffering the most. ELSTAT reports that of that specific age category that some 42.7 percent are without employment, a small drop from last years statistics which showed 48.6 percent jobless.
In total there are 1.12 million Greeks who are currently jobless.
According to Reuters the Greek government is expecting that unemployment will drop further in 2017 to reach 22.4 percent since they are predicting a 2.7 percent expansion of the economy next year.
