Across the board retail sales are registering new record lows in Greece according to the latest data released by the retail commerce sector.
According to the data ekathimerini.com recently published, everything from electronic stores to clothing stores are struggling to make their projected sales goals. Also revealed in the data is that supermarkets have been hit particularly hard in 2016 registering a 7.8 percent drop in sales for the first 9 months of the year compared to 2015.
Eight years after the onset of the financial crisis in Greece, even the big retail chain stores are feeling the impact as the chief of Athen-listed Jumbo stores, Apostolos Vakakis, said that he is expecting things to get worse before they get better. “We can hear the creaking of the market, and it will soon grow louder,” Vakakis stated according to ekathimerini.com.
