Public Issue Opinion Poll: Greece's Opposition ND Strides Ahead With 42 Percent Voter Preference

The latest opinion poll by Public Issue shows the main opposition conservative New Democracy (ND) party striding ahead of the ruling Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) party by 24 units. If an election was called today ND would receive 42 percent, SYRIZA would get 18 percent, followed by 8 percent respectively for the ultra-nationalist Golden Dawn (GD) party and Democratic Alliance. The Greek Communist Party (7.5 percent), centrist To Potami (2.5 percent), Union of Centrists (2 percent), Plefsi Eleftherias (2.5 percent) and others (7.5 percent) would follow.
The main opposition ND leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis is seen as more suitable for the role of prime minister, gathering 42 percent of support, followed by SYRIZA Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras at 21 percent, whereas 35 percent of Greek voters believe that neither of the two candidates are suitable.
Asked which of the two parties would be better at governing Greece, 34 percent of respondents said that they believed that the ND would be better, whereas 13 percent stated that the SYRIZA-ANEL coalition was more suitable, and 51 percent of respondents claimed that neither of the two were suitable.
Regarding popularity of political leaders, Mitsotakis is at the lead with 47 percent, while Alexis Tsipras is in 6th place with a 22-percent rating.
