United States President Barack Obama attended an official dinner in his honor on Tuesday evening at the Greek presidential mansion following the conclusion of his meetings with Greece’s President Prokopis Pavlopoulos and Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras. He was warmly received at the event, attended by 130 guests.

In greeting the outgoing U.S. president during the dinner, Pavlopoulos welcomed Obama “as the president of the United States who supported the idea of respect for humanity and defense of democracy.”

He took the opportunity to point to the “huge economic price that they are not responsible for but one that is the result of the wrong policies. Despite this cost, the people remain in the EU and in the Eurozone’s core,” said Pavlopoulos.

The Greek president also called for an end to the war in Syria, urging that the United States work with Russia towards this goal.
