Northern Greece Rattled by Kilkis Earthquake

seismos-kilkisA magnitude 4.7 earthquake rattled Kilkis, an northern Greek industrial city in central Macedonia. The earthquake’s epicenter was at the same region where a magnitude 4.3 earthquake had struck just a week earlier (November 10). The earthquake had a 10-km depth and struck at 1.22 a.m. on Saturday. The Geophysical Lab of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki located the focal point in the northwest of Thessaloniki, 10km west of Kilkis.
There were no victims or damages noted, however the earthquake was felt in Thessaloniki, Pella and around the entire region due to the shallow depth of its focal point. For this reason, it was initially estimated as being of a greater magnitude to its actual size.
