Greek Police Find Stash of 150 Petrol Bombs in Athens

molotof-eksarxeiaGreek police on Sunday found a stash of 150 molotov cocktails hidden in an abandoned house in Exarchia, central Athens.
Police believe that the petrol bombs were hidden in order to be used during Tuesday’s protest rally in commemoration of the death of 16-year-old Alexandros Grigoropoulos, who was killed by a policeman on December 6, 2008.
According to a SKAI television report, neighbors of the abandoned house alerted the fire department of a strong petrol smell and fumes. Firemen who arrived on the spot found a suitcase full of petrol bombs, and then found more totaling 150 altogether.
The fire department notified the police who searched the area. According to police speculations, the molotov cocktails were to be used at the anniversary of the Grigoropoulos murder on Tuesday. Every year on December 6, the protest rallies are followed by fights between police and anarchist groups and violent riots in the Exarchia neighborhood.
Six thousand police officers will participate in the plan to contain Tuesday’s riots.
