Internal Conflict on Greek Police Force Results in a Lawsuit

matMembers of the riot police unit have filed a lawsuit against the officers in command of an operation.
Riot police were sent to quell a riot on Alexandras Avenue next to police headquarters in Athens on October 31. A court trial for a member of the political party Golden Dawn was taking place at the time.
The plaintiffs claim their superiors led their team of 15 officers on a mission that was doomed to fail.
“We were ordered to act immediately, without help, and consequently we were led like lambs to the slaughter. We were exposed to danger and we were injured,” one plaintiff was quoted as saying.
According to the suit several officers were seriously injured when home made objects and stones were thrown at them by rioters and anarchists. An undisclosed number of injured officers suffered broken legs and arms.
