Fin Ministry Bill Gives Tax Breaks to Greeks Making Payments With Credit and Debit Cards

debit-or-credit-cardTaxpayers who use their credit and debit cards to make payments will be eligible to claim a tax-free threshold in 2017, according to a new bill drafted by the Finance Ministry and tabled in Parliament Monday night.
This means that taxpayers who are salaried workers, farmers or pensioners will be eligible to receive a tax break of €1,900 to €2,100 if they fall into the following categories: a) spend 10 percent of their annual revenue through credit or debit cards if their income is up to €10,000; b) spend 15 percent for incomes up to €30,000; or c) spend 20 percent for higher incomes.
According to sources the Finance Ministry has stated that there will be an exception for pensioners at the onset of the program that will allow them to gradually be introduced to the obligatory usage of credit cards in order to receive the tax break.
