Chios Refugee Camp Without Water, Electric Power

Refugees and migrants at the Souda camp on Chios are living without electric power and water in the past few days amid harsh weather conditions.
According to politischios local news website, power supply was cut 10 days ago, without notification to camp residents. The water supply was cut six days ago, again, without someone notifying migrants. Damages to the water and power supply systems have not been restored yet.
Temperatures on the island have been as low as 2 degrees Celsius in the past few days, with refugees unable to keep warm without heaters.
Desperate, the refugees seek help from humanitarian organizations in trying to keep warm. Some are making makeshift stoves getting power from the UNHCR solar chargers, putting their lives at risk.
Characteristic of the situation is the placard they posted at the entrance of the camp, which reads “We need electricity, Aleppo has it!!!”
The problems, however, do not stop here, as the camp lacks adequate medical services and pharmaceuticals. As a result, many children are sick and remain in their tents.
Furthermore, refugees complain about the quality of the food distributed by the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), claiming that many of them are sick because of the poor quality of the food.
